Juliann Ma

San Francisco Bay Area native Juliann Ma is International ProMusicis Artist of the Year. Passionate about academia, international culture and education, she completed studies at Stanford University (B.A. Music (Honors and Distinction); minor Creative Writing), École Normale Supérieure de Musique de Paris «Alfred Cortot» (Diplôme d’Exécution de Piano (Fulbright grant)), and The Juilliard School (Master of Music). She has just graduated with a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes, The New School for Music, where she has been developing her voice in interdisciplinary arts performance. Her original concert-plus-music video project and directorial debut, SEAS, or ‘Sustainable Environment through the Arts and Sciences’, has garnered critical attention and support from top arts organizations including The New School, ProMusicis and Yamaha, and earned the Marin Alsop Entrepreneurship and Father Merlet Awards. Featuring live performances of environment-inspired music married with uniquely collaborative and audience-interactive dance choreography, SEAS is an immersive experience bringing together eclectic, environmentally-minded artists to share and make felt the effects of climate change and human’s impact on nature. SEAS music video premieres early Fall 2017; the live interdisciplinary performance will figure as a special segment in Juliann’s New York City debut in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall this November 9.

Possessing also an eclectic taste for teaching roles, Juliann has enjoyed leading courses on crafts, jewelry design, music video creation, and pastry, and co-managing major cultural arts events as Stanford University’s Arts Academic Theme Associate. Her work as Resident Counselor of Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes, nurturing middle and high school minds in creative writing, and as Juilliard’s Gluck Fellow, performing original independent works in collaboration with Dance Division Fellows in hospitals across New York, continue to inform her independent projects. She currently teaches piano and music improvisation at Avenues: The World School, as well as privately, at home and through tonerow.com/juliannma .

Juliann’s dream: to revolutionize classical music performance conventions, global health and education through interdisciplinary collaborations and cross-cultural programs, at home in the U.S. and abroad.
